So It Begins, Once Again...!!!!

Do I work as an individual or as part of a team?

The question was whether to tackle this new project independently or reform into a new group??. Seeing as there were so many difficulties & disagreements that occurred in the last project and other members of the group, it made me felt it's best to go and tackle this alone, and set myself a challenge of independence and self-motivation, also in this way i know i won't be a main culprit of being accused of lazy but only to self-blame of mistakes made on my own which is situations to be solved a lot more pleasantly.

I know Jared's best advice was to try work with other existing members of the class, but it seemed that already members stuck with their existing groups which is understandable, but all in all i didn't mind going solo this term. It will set myself a new challenge, a more independent responsibility and to see how much i could get done on my own, so in the end i could really see where all my strengths & weaknesses lie. But as far as the future goes i know there will be more opportunities to work with others, not just in the class but others around based in my field of work.

'Richard, you made a brave effort to co-ordinate and organise your team, which I don’t think was fully appreciated by your team members, I think you should spend the next term exploring the potential of working with a wider range of your peers, this will give you a chance to encounter more diversity in attitude and personality. You will need to be able to deal effectively with the whole range of character that is out there to work well within the group focused aspects of the industry'.

Which of the four possible areas do I concentrate on?
a) 2D conceptualization
b) character animation
c) visualisation (and modelling)
d) visualisation (texturing and rendering)
You may decide to play to strengths that you have already identified, or to remedy relative weaknesses of which you have become aware.

At this present moment, i' m still not 100% sure of what specialism i would like to get into. But at this given time i would like to concentrate alittle more with 2D work such as concept art work alongside a film based or games company, for some good experience and a positive build up on my CV and portfolio. As my confidence and experience builds up i'll would love to jump back on 3D to develop more practice on existing or new line of work, maybe increase my existing knowledge i already have to tackle more 3D software packages?......

Ok decided, my 2 main areas of focus are:-

a) 2D conceptualization

b) character animation

“We need some idents done for the National Gallery’s cinema presentations, maybe your students could come up with some ideas for us? We need a range of five second clips that we can play before during and after our presentations to reinforce the National Gallery’s identity. They can use the gallery’s logo, they can use images from the gallery’s collection, they can use current or future exhibitions as a theme; it would be really nice if they could reflect some of the colours that are used in the new Sainsbury Wing. You know, those lovely deep reds and warm greys.
It would be great if they came up with a range of ideas… I would like to see six ideas from each of them, but do you think they could give us a paper presentation as well, I don’t know the first thing about computers? A storyboard for each as well as some explanation of why they have taken that approach would be excellent support for their actual animations. I suppose they’re going to have to do a little bit of research into the gallery and what we’re about to really come up with something useful…”

- Do some research into the National Gallery
- Storyboard, explain, and produce six, five second segments of animation to reinforce the identity of the National Gallery."

To be honest, i decided to go with brief B. because i wanted to focus a little more on the 2D aspect this time and maybe step away from 3D to try something new. Also it's been nearly 2 years working/using Maya and quite frankly it's getting a bit repetitive and boring for me now. So whilst I'm still learning and studying, i think it will be ideal to experiment with more different areas.

But when reading this brief, i really didn't know where i could take this project nor what to do??? that was the question, repeatedly running through my head, but however some ideas did finally occur. Since Jared said that we could slightly change the brief, to suit our interest i thought instead of The National Gallery how about a title sequence focusing on The Natural History Museum instead??maybe it includes dinosaurs??bugs and other creepy crawlies??. Whether Jared would approve with the idea and the change, that was the questions? i'll just have to wait until next week's meet up or brief chat as they call it!!!!.
